Lean Round Up May

THE LATEST ROUND UP OF ALL THINGS LEAN

We start the latest round up with a short item on the BBC website explaining how the Arianne 6 rocket is built around Lean Principles. Some ver y interesting comments around flow and pull. Voice only I’m afraid.

I found this very interesting piece highlighting that Lean started in the UK in the 1920’s and 30’s. The article points to a book written by Frank G Woollard in 1954 called “Principle of Mass and Flow Production”. The book concludes that Morris Motors Ltd used Lean principles such as Just in Time, Quick Changeovers, Respect For Workers and Continuous Improvement to increase engine productivity from 300 a week to 1200 in two years. Have a read of the article, very interesting.

The next article is a very thoughtful look at Jidoka and how it can work at the human, relationship level. I will leave the article to do the explaining….

Finally, the CICE Annual Conference is booked in. Keep the diary clear for the 25/26 October in Christchurch. More details later!

Take care,

Ian.
